About us

In 2003 volunteers under the initiative of Manuel Portillo, who was Director of the organization "Proyecto sin Fronteras", and several Colombian students, decided to embark on the project of forming a group that would represent the Colombian community in the metropolitan area of Philadelphia. In 2010 Acción Colombia was established as a non-profit organization. Today it is made up of a group of Hispanic leaders who have the invaluable collaboration of volunteers committed to promoting and strengthening the Colombian community in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. In 2017 Acción Colombia obtained the legal status of a non-profit under Section 501 (c) (3).

The organization and its programs have evolved over the years: conferences and Naturalization classes have been organized on the migratory issue; annual programs such as the promotion and organization of the Mobile Consulate, the International Poetry Festival Word in the World, and the Sal y Dulce Latin American Christmas Festival have become a staple of the group. To continue promoting culture, education and recreation, new alliances with civil and social institutions have been developed.

Mission

Promote leadership in the Colombian and Latin American community by fostering art, culture, and civic engagement in the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

Vision

To be recognized as an organization that advocates, develops leadership, and empowers the Latino community in the area.
